From Bench Formula to Commissioned Plant: How a Lubechem Engagement Runs
A Lubechem engagement starts under NDA, not with a recipe on a first call. Discovery scopes the SKU, the plant and the standard. The proposal follows. Delivery is a bench formula, a plant SOP and a test file — and commissioning only if you asked for it.

Direct answer
Every technical discussion starts under NDA. A 60-minute discovery call scopes the SKU, the plant and the standard. The contact page commits to a written proposal in five days. Delivery is a bench formula, a plant SOP and a test file. Commissioning on your kettle happens if the proposal includes it. A PDF left on the desk is not the engagement.
- NDA first, then a 60-minute discovery, then a written proposal. That sequence is the contact page, not a courtesy.
- Send base-oil facts, the target specification, the plant’s actual hardware and the failure you have.
- Staying after the first recipe means the SOP, the test file and, if purchased, the first production batches.
- An annual R&D partnership is continuous access. A single SKU is a closed scope. Do not confuse them.
- No client, certificate or saving is delivered by describing the process.
NDA → discovery → proposal → bench → plant
The order is the control. A mutual NDA is signed before formulations, process data, prices or failure history change hands. That is the contact-page rule, and it applies whether the product is a grease, an engine oil or a fire-resistant hydraulic fluid. The free initial assessment is a 60-minute discovery call with the formulator, not a slide deck from an account manager. It has to leave with three definitions: the SKU, the plant you will actually run, and the standard you are willing to test against. A written proposal is then due in five days. First response to an enquiry is one business day. Those are scheduling commitments published on the contact page. They are not a promise that the chemistry will pass.
Bench work comes after the proposal is accepted. Candidates are blended on the agreed base oil or soap system, and they are judged by the methods named in the proposal — ASTM, ISO, BIS or an OEM sheet — not by resemblance to a competitor’s colour. The plant SOP is written against your kettle or blender: volumes, heating, agitation, hold times, filtration. The test file attaches results to batch identity. Commissioning, if you bought it, is presence on the first production batches, not a footnote. The map of which engagements exist is the services page.
- NDA, then talk about chemistry.
- Discovery: SKU, plant, standard.
- Proposal in five days, with exclusions visible.
- Bench, then SOP and test file.
- Commissioning only as a scoped line.
What you send us (base oils, target spec, plant kit)
Discovery is only as good as the hardware and the oil. For an oil, send the base-stock group, a certificate with kinematic viscosity by ASTM D445, and the viscosity index if you have it. For a grease, send the thickener you can legally make, the oil you can buy, and whether you have a mill or only a kettle. State the target as a document: IS, ASTM limits, ISO 12924, an OEM sheet, API category as a target rather than as a licence you think we can sign. Say whether the product will be sold, used in your own plant, or exported, because the claim you print depends on that.
Plant kit means numbers. Kettle or blender volume, jacket or electrical heating, agitator type, homogeniser, filters, and how you heat-trace a grease line if the grade is soft. If this is a rescue, send the current TDS, the method results you already have, and photographs of the failure. Volumes and prices can wait for the NDA; the existence of a failure cannot. A brief that says “match the market leader” without a method is not yet a brief. Name the property you need to match and the method that measures it. A dropping point, a four-ball weld or an ISO VG without the standard attached is a wish, not a target.
What ‘we do not disappear after the card’ means in practice
The sentence means the engagement is not a one-page percentage card emailed after a single beaker. The SOP has to be runnable, the QC methods have to be the ones in the proposal, and the failed candidates have to stay in the file so the next campaign does not repeat them. If commissioning is in the purchase, questions during the first plant batches are in scope: a soap that did not finish, a blend that hazed, a penetration that missed ASTM D217 because the mill was different from the lab.
If commissioning is not in the purchase, plant support is not silently included. Saying that plainly is part of not disappearing: you should know which calls are covered. Later substitutions of a raw material are a new validation, not a favour, unless an annual arrangement says otherwise. Intellectual property still follows the assignment. Staying available does not mean the formula was only licensed for as long as we remain on the phone. The contract has to say you can keep manufacturing.
Annual R&D Partnership vs a single SKU
A single SKU is a closed job. You can point at the deliverables and the invoice and know whether it happened. An annual R&D partnership is a different product: ongoing formulation access across a portfolio, under a retainer, for plants that will otherwise open a new emergency project every quarter. The partnership page, R&D partnership, is where that retainer is described. It is not a discount coupon on an unlimited number of unspoken SKUs, and it does not replace a specification.
Choose the single SKU when you have one grade to launch or one failure to stop. Choose the partnership when the plant’s normal state is a stream of revisions: base-oil swaps, BIS updates, a grease grade added for winter, a customer who changed the drop-point line. Either way the NDA, the methods and the assignment language stay. The retainer changes the cadence. It does not change who owns the project formula, and it does not create a certificate.
What Lubechem will and will not claim
Describing this sequence is not a claim that a named blender completed it, that a plant passed a trial, or that a cost was removed. Lubechem is a formulation practice in New Delhi led by chemical engineer Er. Manoj Kumar since 2010. It is not a store. The 60-minute call, the five-day proposal and the one-business-day reply are contact-page commitments. They fail if we miss them; they do not fail because a candidate loses a four-ball test. A lost test is a result, and it belongs in the file.
We will not start the technical conversation without an NDA, we will not hide a royalty inside a “full transfer” headline, and we will not treat a compatibility chart or a package brochure as a guarantee. If you are ready, the next step is the contact page, with the SKU, the standard and whether you need a single project or a retainer. Legal opinions and certification audits stay with the professions that issue them.
What each stage is for
| Stage | You receive | You do not receive |
|---|---|---|
| NDA and discovery | A scoped conversation: SKU, plant, standard | A recipe before the NDA, or a tour of someone else’s file |
| Proposal | Methods, exclusions, IP language, five-day turnaround as published | A guaranteed pass, a certificate, or a fixed treat-cost saving |
| Bench and SOP | Candidates, failed trials, plant instruction, test file | A one-page card with round percentages and no method |
| After handover | Manufacturing rights as the assignment states; commissioning if it was bought | Silent unlimited plant support, or a royalty dressed as ownership |
The process is NDA, discovery, proposal, bench, SOP and test file. Commissioning and an annual retainer are separate purchases. Describing the steps is not a client result and not a certificate.
Questions plants actually ask
Do we have to sign an NDA before we describe the product?
You can name the product type, the standard and the fact that you have a plant. The current formula, supplier prices and failure data wait until the mutual NDA is signed.
Is commissioning included in every project?
No. Bench formula, SOP and test file are the core delivery. Commissioning on your kettle is included when the proposal lists it. Assume it is out until you see the line.
What is the difference between one SKU and the annual partnership?
One SKU is a closed scope with a defined deliverable. The annual R&D partnership is a retainer for ongoing formulation access. Ownership language and test methods apply to both.
Does a finished engagement include an API, BIS or NSF certificate?
No. The test file contains the methods that were run. Licences and registrations are separate processes with their own owners. Lubechem does not imply they are in hand.
Literature and prior art
Citations below are orientation, not a freedom-to-operate opinion. Lubechem does not copy claimed compositions and does not treat a patent as a product endorsement.
- Lubechem contact page — NDA before technical discussion, free 60-minute discovery, written proposal in five days, reply within one business day.
- Lubechem services and R&D partnership pages — Single-scope work versus an annual retainer. Neither page is a certificate or a client list.
- Assignment clause in the statement of work — Manufacturing rights after handover are whatever that clause grants, including any royalty exclusion.
