We develop custom engine oils, gear oils, hydraulic and industrial fluids, every grease thickener chemistry, and complete additive packages — then transfer the full formula, bill of materials and manufacturing SOP to you. Because we are not tied to a single additive house, our R&D is supplier-neutral: we select the right chemistry from any source and engineer it to your target standard at the lowest defensible cost.

Every formulation is developed and proven on the relevant ASTM and BIS methods — viscosity, four-ball wear, oxidation stability, drop point, flash and pour — so it passes certification the first time. The work spans the full downstream lubricant landscape: lubricant oil formulation, grease formulation, additive package development and specialty fluids — backed by ASTM testing & QC and troubleshooting for existing manufacturers.

What is lubricant formulation R&D?

Lubricant formulation R&D is the development of a lubricant, grease or additive recipe — selecting base oils, thickeners and additive chemistry, then validating the blend on standardised ASTM and BIS methods until it meets a target specification. At Lubechem it is done independently of any additive house, and the finished formula, bill of materials and manufacturing SOP are transferred to you.

Do you transfer the formula and IP to us?

Yes. Full IP transfer is a core part of every engagement — you receive the complete formulation, raw-material specifications, the process SOP and all test data. There is no royalty per litre and no ongoing licence; the formula is yours outright. Every project begins under NDA.

Can you reverse-engineer a product or develop an alternative to a commercial additive package?

Yes. We deformulate an existing product or branded additive package, benchmark it across the relevant ASTM suite, and build a custom system from individual components that matches or exceeds its performance. We develop verified alternatives to Lubrizol, Afton (HiTEC), Infineum and Chevron Oronite packages — typically 10–25% lower additive treat cost, or 30–45% lower DI-package cost versus the branded package.

What testing do you run to prove a formula passes?

Formulations are validated on the ASTM/BIS methods relevant to the product — for example D445 viscosity, D4172 four-ball wear, D2272 RPVOT oxidation, D217 grease penetration, D92 flash and D97 pour — plus tribology bench testing (four-ball, FZG, Timken) and OECD 301 bio-degradability evaluation where eco claims are needed.

How much can a custom additive system save?

It depends on the grade, volume and the package you run today. As labelled metrics: additive treat cost is typically 10–25% lower, and a full DI package is typically 30–45% lower than buying the equivalent branded package. We scope the exact figure against your current formulation.

Do you help with BIS, API or NSF certification?

Yes. We formulate specifically to pass the target standard and prepare the complete documentation and test-data package for BIS IS 13656, API licensing, NSF H1 and similar approvals.

Can you formulate biodegradable, EV or specialty products?

Yes. Our R&D covers biodegradable and eco lubricants (HETG / HEES / HEPG), re-refined base-oil formulations, EV e-fluids and thermal-management fluids, NSF H1 food-grade lubricants and greases, and specialty fluids such as DEF, coolants and metalworking fluids.
