Lubricant Oil
Formulation R&D

From a single grade to an entire product range. We develop lubricant oil formulations that meet the target specification, pass all required ASTM and BIS tests, and can be manufactured profitably at your production scale. Built on the correct base oil group with an additive package designed to match or beat commercial alternatives at lower treat cost.

Example Project

Developed a complete API SP / ACEA A3-B4 engine oil range (5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-40) using a Group III base oil blend with a custom ZDDP/PIBSI/OCP additive package.

Result: BIS certification on first submission. Additive treat cost 16% below the commercial package previously used.

Formulation R&D

Grease formulation is the most process-sensitive area of lubricant chemistry — and our deepest specialisation. We cover all thickener chemistries, all NLGI grades, all saponification methods. Every formulation includes not just the formula but the complete manufacturing SOP: temperature profile, fatty acid addition sequence, milling procedure, and consistency control.

Example Project

Developed lithium complex grease NLGI 1, 2, and 3 for a Gujarat manufacturer using locally sourced fatty acids with Group II base oil and custom EP additive package.

Result: Dropping point >260°C, four-ball EP 250 kg-f. BIS IS 7623 certified. Full SOP transferred.

Additive Package
Development

Commercial additive packages are convenient but expensive and lock you into a single supplier. Our in-house additive package development designs custom systems that match or exceed commercial performance at 10–25% lower treat cost, using raw materials available in India and internationally.

Example Project

Replaced a commercial API SN engine oil additive package with a custom ZDDP/PIBSI/OCP/phenolic system for a manufacturer producing 80,000 litres/month of 10W-30 and 20W-50.

Result: API SN performance maintained across all ASTM tests. Additive cost reduced by ↔1.8/litre — saving ~↔17 lakh per month at full volume.

Developed a high-drop-point calcium complex grease from fatty acid by-products generated at a biodiesel manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu. On-site inspection, fatty acid GC characterisation, and full formulation development using waste stream as primary thickener raw material — converting a commodity by-product into a high-value industrial grease.

Result: Drop point >272°C, four-ball EP weld 280 kgf, BIS IS 7623 test data package prepared. Feedstock value increased ~3.2× over selling crude fatty acid.

A Delhi NCR lithium soap grease manufacturer had an 18% batch rejection rate due to inconsistent NLGI grade penetration. Root cause: saponification hold time varying by 20 minutes across operators, and milling pass count estimated visually (2–5 passes per batch).
