A cement plant does not run on one grease
The kiln support roller, the girth gear and the mill gearbox fail in different ways. Rollers see radiant heat and need a high-temperature bearing grease. The girth gear is a slow, dusty open gear and needs a sprayable compound. The gearbox is an oil. Lubechem formulates each one. This page is the map; the build notes are linked.
Match the lubricant to the component
Kiln support rollers
Continuous heat. Specify the real metal temperature and the relube interval, then choose thickener and base oil. Start from the high-temperature grease page and the kiln and girth-gear note.
Girth gear
Spray every few minutes onto a slow gear in dust. Pumpability through a long line matters as much as the weld load. Open-gear formulation.
Ball mill and drives
Open pinions follow the girth-gear logic. Enclosed reducers follow industrial gear oil.
Fans, conveyors, stackers
More ordinary industrial grease — until they sit in clinker dust or kiln radiant heat. Do not promote every point to a kiln grease, and do not leave a hot point on EP2.
Consumption numbers belong to a trial
Plants are often sold a grease on a percentage saving versus the incumbent spray. That saving is real only if the spray interval, the nozzle and the gear condition were held constant. Lubechem will formulate to a weld load, a spray viscosity and a dusted-line pump test. We will not print a consumption claim from another plant.
If the failure is white-etching or water rather than heat, say so. Cement is dry and hot; a wet limestone or coal handling point is a different brief, closer to mining lubricants.
How to read the duty
Public patents and papers cited as field references. Lubechem does not own these inventions and this page is not a formula.
- ASTM D217, D2265, D2596, D1264 — Consistency, drop point, weld, washout. Drop point is not the kiln temperature.
- Lubechem open-gear and high-temperature notes — Component pages. This industry page only routes the question.
Cement lubricant questions
Which grease for a cement kiln bearing?
A high-temperature bearing grease specified for the measured temperature and the centralised system, commonly a calcium sulfonate or other complex. Not an open-gear spray, and not a standard lithium EP2.
Is girth-gear lube a grease or an oil?
On most cement mills it is a sprayable open-gear lubricant, NLGI 0 or 1, heavy and tacky. The enclosed gearbox next to it is a gear oil.
Do you supply the cement plant directly?
Lubechem formulates for the blender or the plant’s lubricant supplier. We are not a finished-grease brand with a cement price list.
Name the component before you ask for a formula
Kiln roller, girth gear, or gearbox. One of those is the brief.
